On July 4th we were at a friend’s home for dinner and a movie. The movie chosen was ‘1776’ the musical from 1972 starring William Daniels as John Adams, Howard Da Silva as Ben Franklin and Ken Howard as Thomas Jefferson. A great cast, a great screenplay filled with catchy, obnoxious songs. I enjoy it.
But, fifty years on the country has changed so much that the views of the playwright, screenwriter, director, cast are an anathema to the denigration of American history and Americans themselves.
